My First Month in Thailand: Learning to Work & Live in A New Country.
Sooooo... if you've been following my sabbatical journey, you know that my road to get to Thailand has NOT been easy. (Mostly because there isn't a direct flight from LA to Thailand, ) but also because I am not only moving to Thailand, but learning to work and run my business from abroad. I own a travel company that provides women with full destination tours all over the world. I've led tours in South Korea, Thailand, and soon, Japan. One of the reasons I chose to leave for Thailand much sooner than I initially planned was because I had a tour in Thailand from the end of February 2024 until early March. This gave me something to do once I got to Thailand, but also helped me to acclimate a bit better. This is how my first month in Thailand went.
But first.... KOREA. (Oh, the joys of layovers.)
Before I could land and start my new life in Thailand, I had an overnight layover in Seoul, South Korea. I decided to stay at a cute airbnb near the airport instead of venturing into the city center because I didn't want to miss my early morning flight. Here's the LINK to the airbnb I stayed in. If you have a layover in Seoul and need an affordable, comfy, and chic place to stay, check it out. It was about a 15 minute drive to the apartment and they have a great taxi line at all hours of the morning, which is perfect if you have an early morning flight like mine. :)
And finally, Bangkok! (I made it, besties)
I finally landed in Bangkok at Suvarnabhumi Airport. The flight was short and sweet. Now, I have a wonderful transportation company I work with in Thailand-- they picked me up and took me to our Bestie House for the week. (The "Bestie House" is the house my clients and I stay in when we are traveling in other countries.) Once I got to the bestie house, I began prepping the house for my tour group's arrival. Look at how cute our Thailand Bestie House is! The women in my group absolutely loved it and had a great time exploring our cute little neighborhood as well. From the 7-11 right across the street, to the chicken restaurant a few blocks away, the ladies and I took it all in!
Thailand Tour 2024!!
My clients arrived to Bangkok and our tour immediately started with a bang! I was a bit nervous about leading this tour as I had just committed to an undeniably large life change. The good thing about having my tour take place right after deciding to move was that I was too busy to really acknowledge the fear. I was TERRIFIED about quitting my day job and working for myself. I had no idea if things would work out in my favor-- but at that point, I was willing to try anything. Anything to get out of the ratrace and anything to be able to gain even a fraction of my life back. Here is how the tour went.
The tour went AMAZING! Not only were the ladies happy, I felt so inspired by them to move forward with my company and with my way of life. I was excited to be able to continue to provide tours and provide safe and fun ways for women of color to explore the world. It's always said that God's timing is best, well... LET-ME-TELL-YOU... it's true. This tour was PERFECTLY timed and I was able to truly sink into my decision and feel alive in my decision because I was doing what I loved. I couldn't have asked for a better way to start my sabbatical.
During my first week of being in Thailand, I also began house hunting. Make sure to check the next blog post to see what my experience was like to apartment hunt in Thailand!
This wonderful journey is ongoing for the entire year of 2024 and 2025. If you want to see how I ended up swimming on a beautiful Island in Italy or jumping for joy in Dubai, please continue reading.
